WEDNESDAY, MAY 17: SARAH GREENE PRESENTS ALLY CORBETT AT TRANZAC

Wednesday, May 17: Sarah Greene Presents feat. special guest Ally Corbett. 7 pm – 9 pm, PWYC. In Tranzac’s Southern Cross Lounge (292 Brunswick Ave, Toronto, ON).

The May edition of Sarah Greene Presents at Tranzac (third Weds of the month) features my multi-instrumentalist bud Ally Corbett, coming in from Kitchener for this special show! Ally writes and plays so many great songs.

7 pm: Sarah Greene
8 pm: Ally Corbett

PWYC

Ally Corbett:

The human brain is naturally wired to make good decisions when the unconscious mind works it out. Ally Corbett’s songwriting puts these decisions into sonic form, creating a space for ideas (sometimes quirky, sometimes dark) to snowball and spin into catchy melodies. Ally is originally from Newfoundland and is now based in Kitchener, Ontario. You can catch her as a side musician playing fiddle with a number of Canadian singer-songwriters and bands.

Sarah Greene:

Sarah Greene is a songwriter, writer and booker/curator from Toronto. Her songs are intimate, concise and idiosyncratically classic. Working in warm, soulful country-tinged folk-rock ballads, Greene examines loneliness, vulnerability, and the tugging poles of freedom and attachment in her songs. She released two recordings as the front woman of mid-2000s indie-folk band The Pickups before putting out her debut solo album, Toronto Blues, in 2011. She is currently gearing up to record her sophomore album, On The Wire, at the Gas Station on Toronto Island

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15: SARAH GREENE PRESENTS FEATURING DAVE CLARK’S WESTERN SLANG

Wednesday, March 15: Sarah Greene Presents Dave Clark’s Western Slang at Tranzac (in the Southern Cross Lounge). 7 pm – 9 pm, PWYC

Sarah Greene Presents Dave Clark’s Western Slang, with an opening set by Sarah Greene with Paul Kolinski, Dave Clark and Tania Gill.

Dave Clark’s Western Slang Exists to uplift you even if a few of the tunes are downright super depressing!

Dave Clark’s Western Slang walks a country music tightrope in a worn out nudie suit, holding a broken umbrella and wearing a beatific smile. This is country music with chicken fried grease on the bun. Dave Clark (Rheostatics, the Woodshed Orchestra, Charles Spearin’s Happiness Project) has curated a songbook of his original C&W tunes for his pals; bassist/vocalist Michael Herring, guitarist/vocalist Paul Kolinski, pianist/vocalist Tania Gill, guitarist/vocalist Nichol Robertson and drummer Lowell Whitty to wander through as Clark steps out front as lead vocalist.

Dave Clark’s Western Slang will play for you with love from our hearts.

Sarah Greene’s songs are intimate, concise and idiosyncratically classic. Working in warm, soulful folk-rock ballads, Greene examines loneliness, vulnerability and the tugging poles of freedom and attachment in her songs. She will be playing songs from her upcoming album as well as covers, some of both of which might be country!

Re: FarAwayGirls:

How far is too far?

Far away perspectives? Locations? Imaginations? How does one define what exactly is far away?
These two rollicking, perambulatory mortals (Vanessa, on electric guitar and Alex on bass and tenor sax) crossed paths many moons ago…

They’ve explored their own independent expeditions but, no matter how far they meander.. They always manage to find their way back to each other which results in the collaboration and generation of sounds. In addition, this pair have met other likeminded vagabonds throughout their journeys which often accompany and add much conscience to the creation.

Far away can be considered to be both objective and subjective.. While these two create to demonstrate their own interpretations of what far away means to them.. What does far away mean to you?

Joined for this show by Paul on drums.

My usual third Friday of the month slot in December at Tranzac will be a Barnyard Drama Singalong (Friday, December 16, 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm) so please come by for that.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21: SARAH GREENE & PAUL KOLINSKI; SWEET PEA AND JOULES THE FOX AT TRANZAC

Friday, October 21: Sarah Greene & Paul Kolinski; Sweet Pea and Joules the Fox

My monthly residency at Tranzac will feature Sweet Pea (full band set); Joules the Fox (on tour from Germany) and an opening duo set by me and Paul.

Paul and I have been looking forward to playing with Sweet Pea for a while now and adding Joules to the bill is icing on the cake. I had the pleasure of seeing Joules play at Folk Music Ontario this past weekend and was struck by the originality, intimacy and quirkiness of her songs. This is going to be an early one folks!
